I started her on October 1st, 2011 and I finished her December 21st, 2011. She's stitched on 32 ct. opalescent linen that I dyed myself. I love dying fabric and will post pics when I dye different fabrics. The same day I finished Shimmering Mermaid, I started Mirabilia's Mermaid of the Pearls. I've converted most of the colors from blues and greens to wine shades. I'll post a pic in a few days when I've gotten farther than her hair. Thank you so much for reading my blog!

I love your Shimmering Mermaid, she is dazzling!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter, who is 25, is also studying to be a teacher (high school); she isn't into stitching though. It's great to see your generation stitching.
I saw your post on the Mirabilia FB group. Welcome to blogging, Leslie! Your mermaid is gorgeous!! I'm also a student right now. I went back to college last year to finish the degree I started around the time you were born. LOL

She is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie. I used to live in SA until last year. I love working on Mirabilia too. I am also doing Mystery XV and was wondering if you ordered the kit or just picked up the materials. Where do you get the Swarovski and Delica beads? I am just trying to figure out which would be more cost effective. Also, I have been trying to join the Mirabilia on Facebook but have had no luck. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Deb! I actually am buying all of the threads and the fabric through my local needlework shop. I think it will be similar in price to the kit, but I will have supported my local shops. I do plan to order the bead pack through European Cross Stitch. It just isn't cost effective to order all of the beads separately. Thanks for reading and commenting!
ReplyDeleteI miss going to Stitches from the Heart. Great bunch of ladies. Though I have a great local shop here in Copperas Cove (I live in Killeen). I ordered fabric from Sparklies in Moonlighting as I decided on a dark blue. What is the fabric protector you have on your qsnap? Did you make it? I've not seen that before and I have been stitching since I was 9 but things have changed over the past 30 years.
ReplyDeleteI like Stitched From the Heart too. Cross Stitch Plus closed over the summer and that was sad. The fabric protecter is called a Q-snap Cover. I sell them for $12 plus $1.75 shipping in the US for all sizes. I've found shipping is usually between 1.65 and 1.90 so I just charge the average. You choose the size and color and I'll sew it and mail it out within a couple of days. They also come with guards to go between the clamps and your fabric so that might be on the clamps doesn't get on your fabric and it also keeps the clamps from crushing your stitches. If you'd like one, you can email me at Leslie.LaFleur@gmail.com :)
ReplyDeleteOff topic question. How are the colors working on the black fabric for Mystery XV? I am ordering the kit from European XS after meeting with my lns, which is fine because they are wonderful there too. The choice of fabric is ant white or black and I was told that greens or blues would blend with the colors.
ReplyDeleteI just joined your blog and there are so many things I want to comment on! First, what a beautiful Shimmering Mermaid! I have all the Mermaid patterns I can find ....LOL! I have this one but have not even started her. I did finish Mermaid of the Pearls, Waiting for Ships, Mediterranean Mermaid, and I am 1/2 finished with Bluebeard's Mermaid . The fast was Mediterranean but Bluebeard's is such a chore...and I don't know why. Anyway, I am so happy I saw your blog on an answer you posted on Chatelaine Forum.
